What are you {grateful} for?

“Start each day with a grateful heart”

What are you grateful for today?  It sounds like a trivial question but seriously.  I was walking up the stairs with my coffee this gorgeous autumn morning and instead of being grateful, I was irritated with the cat.  Really?  The cat?  But that damn cat had been in our room last night and she kept us up.  It really was irritating.  However, coming up the stairs, with my coffee (and the key here could be that I hadn’t had any of that coffee yet…) I realized that we had that cat because I am a complete bleeding heart when it comes to animals and we brought her home when she was a week old after finding her under a box, crying and hungry.  My decision.  My choice.  So how can I let that color the way my day begins?  Thus, I looked around and began mentally noting what I was grateful for.

A day all to my self to complete projects that have sat idle far too long

A sunny morning- crisp with the feel of Autumn in the air

The anticipation of seeing a girlfriend tomorrow for brunch

And then the usual- healthy children, fabulous husband, beautiful home, wonderful family, food in the fridge, etc… etc…

But how often do I actually acknowledge these things?  Not nearly enough, truth be told.  So I wanted to remind myself to begin my day going over my list of things that I am grateful for- I want to get into that routine so that my day begins with a grateful heart.  For me, it will color the way my day progresses- that is how my mind works.

What are you grateful for today?  Truly- I would like to know.

Happy Thursday mes amies,

xx

  1. Kimberly thank you for this beautiful and gentle post. I too have been working on redirecting my thoughts to ones of gratitude…but have been off track the last two days…and have felt the impact it brings. Your post today was a gift to my soul!

I am grateful for fall’s approach and the return to routine it brings..to be able to celebrate the season with a change in decor…for my daughter’s safe arrival and settling in her new home for the semester in Italy. I am grateful for the creative gifts and connections of blogging. i am grateful for finding your beautiful post on gratitude…on a day I truly needed the reminder. Thank you Kimberly.

kim, you continually gift me things with your kind words, you are what i appreciate whole heartedly and i make distinctions between what a real friendship is and what one is not, i find myself learning so much from you for you my friend have to be one of the most kind and gracious human beings i have ever known.

and i am better for it, times a million.

Love this reminder as it’s so easy to forget to be grateful. My kitty kept me awake all night as well – and I too am a bleeding heart and rescued her from being put to sleep when I lived in Kuwait. But I feel lucky to have her as a companion!

Grateful I took a few minutes to slow down and read your post this morning Kimberly. My day started out much the same way.

Today, I am grateful for my friends and family, my peaceful sanctuary of a farm and each of its sweet creatures, our health and my work. I also feel grateful for the inspiration and goodness friends such as you bring into my home each and every day. Bless you!

Grateful that you used the word Autumn ;-) Grateful to have you as my friend. Grateful for seasonal fruit and 3 fig trees in my back yard. Grateful for the big red sun I saw rising over the fields this morning. Greatful to be human and have choices.
Grateful for a big heart to love my family and adored ones like YOU
    Much love

Some days we can let the little things get us down and it is up to us to choose which path we want to take. I found myself in a similar situation last week as I pulled into the parking lot at work, in the rain. I told myself that we NEED the rain and we do ~ there has been a campfire ban here all summer because it is so dry. So once I turned my rainy day mood into a better one all I could think about was vacation ~ counting down…. happy to say that this week-end has been wonderful ~ we went to two little local flea markets today ~ had a great breakfast and an amazing supper ~ I finished my book and have my little sidekick curled up here beside me ~ I am blessed ~ I really need to remind myself of that every day. Hugs to you. xo

  8. Thank you for this reminder. I desperately needed to read this today. I have a print of a rainy day at home that says “I will be grateful for this day.” I need to remember that more often.
