Today is one of those days. The rain is coming down in sheets – and it is cold rain. While there isn’t really much by way of wind, I had to put two coats on today to feed the animals. It is wet, and chilly, and quite frankly, not the least bit inviting. That is unfortunate seeing as the calendar says it is April and I really (reallyreallyreally) want to get out into the gardens.
Now one thing you should know about me is since I married my very handsome husband, I have learned to love the climate in the pacific northwest. I love our cozy days, I enjoy sitting by a fire, wrapped in a warm blanket, listening to the rain come down on the roof. I enjoy living in a place that is so green most of the year. But right about now, I am over it. I am done with the rain, and the dark and the gray. I don’t *hate* it yet, but if it keeps up for many more weeks, I just may. You see, I love this little farm of ours. I love being outside, wandering around the property, with lambs or dogs or hens or children following me. I love opening the windows of the house and of Mabel and airing everything out. I love the smell of fresh-cut grass on warm breezes. I really truly do. And by now, I am missing all of that.
So, this morning, #4 in tow, we headed out to our favorite feed store. We knew that today was the day that they would be receiving the breed of chicks that we wanted. We had picked up four a few weeks ago and today we picked up four more. I absolutely LOVE watching the chickens running around the property in the summer and this year we have added a number of blue-gray girls which will be gorgeous when they are full-grown!
Wishing you a marvelous weekend, no matter the weather!
xx

Can we just trade places for the day? It’s 80 degrees here and I’m bordering miserable. I hate warm weather and I am missing the rain right about now. Oh well… I guess we both better just enjoy the day we have
Adorable chicks!
Oh…look at those balls of fluff! And me, too.
Done. With. The. Rain.
xxoo,
I know what you mean Kim so you can only imagine how I feel right now as we are in the midst of a little ole snowstorm here on the east coast. Read ~ not impressed at all!! I too am yearning for green grass ~ a warm breeze and a gentle rain….soon….soon. Love your new little chicks ~ they are adorable!
Even the rain wouldn’t keep me from LOVING that adorable basket full of fluff. Thanks for sharing. Spring is a ways off still in Chicago.
Fondly,
Glenda
They are so stinkin cute!!! I wish we could get chicks…maybe someday.
So sweet!!! They would definitely make me forget about the rain!!
xoxo
Have a wonderful weekend Kim!!!
How enchanting. Their color is so pretty. I have such great images of your farm, kids, animals, property. Have a wonderful weekend. The photography of that little chick with the pink and the brown basket is so sweet and rustic at the same time.
oh, I know how you feel. But today, the dark clouds parted, and we had a marshmallow roast tonight. Tomorrow, it will rain again, but at least there was the break. What kind of chicks are they? I do hope you will smuggle me up some cute girls. We have a very poor selection up here in Canada. sigh.
So much fun to see you at the “feed store” today. I was there for way too long;) I’m right where you are with the rain…but I will always love the moss. So, I’m working on my new chicken coop, getting it ready! Then I’ll go back to that great spot and pick my new little flock of hens. Thanks for the inspiration Kimberly
Jman is asking for a chicken for his birthday. Thanks, Kim
love them! hope is sunny where you are today!
Love the basket of chicks! So adorable. I want chickens so badly! I feel your need for spring! We had spring weather most of the weekend and I was in heaven. Today it is chilly and 40 mph winds. Brutal!
Oh my gosh, the chicks are so very sweet. I love the photos you took of them. I am very ready for some sunshine therapy!
Hugs,
Kathy
