Nearly a year ago my friend Kasey and her family made the decision to live a simpler life. They committed to a year- a year of living in the moment, enjoying simple pleasures, and spending time together. While it was a huge leap of faith that they could make it work, I think that it has surpassed their expectations. I have never seen Kasey happier or healthier, and her family seems to be thriving. Who knows what the future will hold for them- but the lessons they have learned will travel with them wherever they may go~ You can read Kasey’s adventures here- and what adventures they are!
One year ago my family and i decided it was time for a change.
My husband had just lost his job with a company that had moved us to Chicago 4 years prior…..
our three kids were getting older…..
our life was was full and content but there was something tugging on our hearts telling
us we needed change.
We needed to live a little……
let our kids live a little.
So we packed up our house and put everything in storage…..rented out our house…..
and decided to head to Hawaii for a year.
We arrived without a job…..but luckily my husband secured one within a few weeks of arriving.
These last nine months have been the most amazing time in both of our lives…..
we live simply….living on a salary that was less than a quarter of what we used to live in.
We make every day here count…..every day…every minute…every second.
Simple moments that have made us take that step back and realize that this life we are living
needed to be lived to the fullest.
The sand on our feet……the kids in the ocean……a school that has open doors and views of waterfalls.
Hiking and picnics on the beach…..surfing with friends after school…..
simple moments.
It’s the way we decided to live for a year………..by taking time for our family…..
and introducing our children that there is more to life then living in middle class suburbia.
When the time is up….and it’s slowly closing in on us…..
i know we will all look back on this time as having been one of our best adventures…
but till then….
we will live every single moment …..in the moment….and savor it forever.
Awww…I’ve really enjoyed following Kasey’s dreams. Who wouldn’t love to just chuck out the ‘normalcy’ that we all endure to have an adventure of the most sincerest calibre. Good luck to you Buick family on the next chapter.

I, too have enjoyed reading about Kasey and her families adventures – they are priceless memories for them all! She definitely looks and sounds alot happier since living in Hawaii. What a great example for us all – to enjoy each moment! xxoo
